Holocaust History Program – The Ruth Gruber Story (film & discussion)

October 25 at 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

haven

Film & discussion of the Ruth Gruber story based on the book “Haven” by Ruth Gruber, presented by Edee Tenser
The true, inspiring story of the efforts of Ruth Gruber to save almost a thousand Christian and Jewish refugees from war by bringing them across the Atlantic to New York and granting them a safe haven from the Holocaust. When the refugees arrive in New York they are forced to live in an internment camp where they live in fear of deportation and despair of ever having a home. Ultimately, Ruth must fight for the refugees’ rights to belong and to have a permanent home in the United States.

Edee Tenser is an educator, college professor, and English teacher who specializes in social justice, humanities and human rights, and the lessons of the Holocaust.

Presented in partnership with the Jewish Historical Society of Greater Hartford
