India: Diwali celebration

October 17 at 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Amee Mody and Tina Panik invite you to the community room for another fabulous Indian holiday!
Diwali is a Hindu Festival of Lights, celebrated to honor Rama-chandra, the seventh avatar (incarnation of the god Vishnu). On this day Rama returned to his kingdom after 14 years of exile during which he fought and won a battle against the demons and the demon king, Ravana. Diwali also has a special significance in Jainism. It marks the anniversary of Nirvana or liberation of Mahavira’s soul, the 24th Jain Tirthankara of present cosmic age and celebrated at the same time.

This celebration is brought to you by the dynamic team of Avon residents that produced our “Celebration of India’s Spring Festivals” program in early 2017.
