CONNECTICUT 2017 UNITED NATIONS DAY PROGRAM

THE UNITED NATIONS; PROMISE IN A TIME OF PERIL

What is the United Nations? Why established? How organized? Accomplishments? Failures? Our era does have its challenges: climate change, the unsettled Middle East, wildcard Russia, nuclear weapons in rogue countries, financial volatility, an emerging China, stateless terrorists, human rights violated… and much more. Midst these crises, steps the UN, one organization that gathers representatives from 193 nations under one roof. It offers a window of opportunity for the wellbeing of humanity. With its Sustainable Development Goals and a new Secretary General, what promise and hope does the UN bring to our conflicted world? A panel from the Board of the United Nations Association of Connecticut will explore these issues and invite a conversation with the attendees. It is an invitation to individuals of good will to realize the UN’s global, humanitarian goals through local leadership.
