(Virtual Event) Lyme Disease and Other Tick-Associated Diseases

Tick-associated diseases, mainly Lyme disease, are increasing, new diseases are being discovered, and various tick species are expanding their geographic range posing an increasing risk to the public. In addition to our “deer” ticks, lone star ticks. Gulf Coast ticks, and Asian longhorned ticks represent a new threat in Connecticut. Ticks can be acquired outdoors around the home or during recreational activities, the risk of which will increase with warmer weather. Dr. Stafford will briefly cover the ticks, tick-borne disease incidence, basic tick biology, and then review various environmental methods for tick-bite prevention and tick control.
Presenter: Dr. Stafford, a medical-veterinary entomologist, is the former Chief Scientist (Head) of the Department of Entomology and State Entomologist. He retired in 2022, as an emeritus chief scientist after 35 years researching ticks, tick-borne diseases, and tick management strategies. He continues to work on several projects and manuscripts part-time.
